Point Pelee National Park will be closed later this week for a deer cull.
An annual deer count in early December found 103 deer, which is three to four times higher than what the park's ecosystem can sustain.
As a result, the park will be closed to visitors from January 12 to 26 at which time, Parks Canada and the Caldwell First Nation will be conducting a "deer population reduction" to restore the park.
A high population of white-tailed deer are a serious threat to the forest which is home to many species at risk such as the red-headed woodpecker and red mulberry trees.
The park can ideally support 24 to 32 deer.
