A hearing has wrapped up into an appeal of a sentence against a Windsor man found guilty of setting a house on fire, injuring a girl.
Back in 2017, Ken Kormendy, 46, was sentenced to 11 years in prison after he was found guilty of three counts of attempted murder.
Following a trial, the judge found Kormendy poured gasoline in a bedroom where Sheri Rueda and her daughter, then 7-year-old Isabel were sleeping in their home on Balfour Boulevard in October 2015.
He then lit a fire.
Rueda and Kormendy were in a relationship and she was trying to break it off.
Isabel suffered burns to 15% of her body including severe scarring on her face.
The crown was seeking a longer sentence and appealed the judge's sentence.
The hearing before the Ontario Court of Appeal was heard last week in Toronto and the decision has been reserved.
Kormendy himself, also appealed the conviction claiming innocence throughout the trial. His appeal is still working its way through the courts.
