President of the Windsor Minor Hockey Association Dean Lapierre has been suspended for the rest of 2016-17 season due to inappropriate comments on social media.
The decision was handed down by the Senior Executive Members of the Association in consultation with the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.
In addition to the suspension, Lapierre has to take training programs dealing with social media, take a Respect In Sport course, take part in WMHA Onside workshop offered by the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre and write an apology.
Association Vice President of Travel Dave Pickford says there is a lesson to be learned.
"Dean made a mistake but he has been a volunteer for 30 years and has done a lot of good stuff in the community and for hockey," said Pickford. "He has made a mistake, it is a big mistake, a bad mistake but we are here to help him see it through."
"With social media, he is out there in the community and has to reflect a positive image for himself because that reflects on Windsor Minor Hockey."
On his personal Facebook Page, Lapierre wrote 'dumb bitches' when referring to the women heading to the march in Washington being held up at the border.
The Windsor Minor Hockey Association will also update its Code of Conduct and its Board of Directors will participate in the WMHA Onside workshop offered by the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre.
Pickford says Lapierre understands he has made a mistake and is remorseful.
