It's deadline day for Amherstburg residents.
Today is the last day for community members to register and speak at the Ontario Civilian Police Commission public meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on June 26, 2018 and will allow residents to discuss the proposed switch from Amherstburg police to Windsor police with the group that's in charge of making the final decision.
Frank Cleminson is Past Chair of the Amherstburg Police Service Board.
He says now is the time for residents to voice their concerns after learning about an investigation launched by the commission into the Windsor Police Service.
Cleminson says before making the switch, the investigation needs to be cleared up.
"Those concerns and those charges or investigations that they're dealing with right now are very serious in nature and that board and that department needs to take care it before I would even entertain or want Amherstburg to be apart of that," says Cleminson.
He and others don't want to miss the meeting and that's why they're using vacation days.
"O.C.P.C. is very involved with making this decision and they were really fair to ask that the confidential agreement with Windsor be removed and that the citizens of Amherstburg be aware on what's going on, on a department that might be taking us over"
Cleminson is against the switch and feels it's important to speak at the meeting.
Anyone wishing to make oral submissions to the Commission must provide notice by email to OCPCRegistrar@ontario.ca by the end of the day.
The meeting will take place at the Libro Credit Union Centre on Meloche Road from 9 am until 4:30 pm and from 6 pm to 9 pm.
