Two candidates in the upcoming municipal election are raising a safety concern on a newly widened section of Cabana Road.
Public board trustee candidate Shirley Watson lives right at the corner of Karen Street and watches her children try to get through the fast moving traffic.
Ward 9 candidate Kieran McKenzie is advocating there be a pedestrian crossover across Cabana Road at that location.

8-year-old Kennedy Brisson is entering Grade Four at Roseland Public School and has to cross Cabana to get to class.

"I'm now scared sometimes that when I cross the road I'll get hit and the cars go super fast and it's hard to believe that other people, people don't care about people crossing"
Veronica Chan has five children living in the neighborhood and says her daughter needs to cross after she gets off the school bus.

"She'll be waiting for 20 minutes before she crosses the four lane road because the lifeguard is already gone and she couldn't possibly go" explains Chan. "Another way that she can do it she would have to go all the way to Holbourn light to get over and then all the way to where we live and that is very disturbing"
Marie Bye is a senior who has lived in the neighborhood for 50 years.
"Now with the way things are it's almost impossible to get across the street and that's the reason I took up the petition to get a light for a crosswalk"
Current Ward Nine Councillor Hilary Payne has asked administration to look into the feasibility of a crosswalk similar to the one recently opened on Wyandotte Street in Walkerville.
Both McKenzie and Watson are adamant a full pedestrian crossover is needed.
