Repairs will begin in the next couple of weeks

Repairs should begin soon on a pair of playgrounds in Windsor damaged by fires.

Windsor's Corporate Leader for Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities Jan Wilson says since the fires were called in quickly, it helped to minimize the damage.

Fire crews were called  Wednesday, April 10th to a fire at a playground on Dawson Rd.  The playground had just been installed last year.

"We expect the vendor for the Dawson Park playground to be in within the next couple of weeks to start work on that, I would suspect it would take 3-4 weeks for that one," says Wilson.

Damage is pegged at $23,000.

Then another fire broke out on the same day at the playground at Francois Court Park causing $15,000 to $20,000.

Repairs should be completed in 4-6 weeks.

Wilson says the playgrounds were well used.

"It is discouraging, I know residents really appreciate the ammenities they have  in the parks and the playgrounds are one of the most popular things they do in parks."

She says the city has been approached by two companies in the local area that are interested in contributing to offset the cost.

"Sometimes it brings out the best in people too," says Wilson.

A 15-year-old Windsor boy has been charged with two counts of arson.
