Crimes against people are down according to the latest statistics from Windsor Police.
They report a 17-percent drop last year compared to 2015.
Inspector Pam Mizuno says the overall crime stats are down as well. "The number of Criminal Code occurrences in the city is moving downward, it's a 2-percent decrease over the 5 year average and an 8-percent decrease over 10 year average. And youth crime is down both in violent and property crime."
Mizuno says the Windsor Police case clearance percentage is at 80-percen, which is the highest in Ontario and well above the provincial average of 70-percent.
Windsor Police also reports a reduction in the flow of two specific types of illegal drugs: "The drug unit focused on the projects over the past two years," says Mizuno. " Meth, crystal meth and fentanyl are drugs that are having a huge impact on our city and they'll continue to focus on those drugs and guns."
