A voluntary smart phone app, now available to download, can warn you if you've come into close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
It is currently only linked to the Ontario health system, but anyone can begin using it today and more provinces are expected to link to it soon.
AM800's Kristylee Varlee spoke with tech expert Carmi Levy on The Afternoon News.
He says an anonymous code is all that will be exchanged via Bluetooth.
"It only uses Bluetooth to make sure that you know when you've come in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, which is a critical capability until we have vaccine available to us," he says.
If someone you've crossed paths with later contracts the virus, they'll upload a code and you'll be contacted.
"Phones that connected with you and said hey, you came in contact on this date at this time with someone who has now tested positive and you may want to look into that," added Levy. "That's all it is. There's no way of telling who those people are or connect to any other private information."
Levy says it's a very simple was to help contain community spread.
"This is one of the most powerful tools we have. It's free, it's easy and we all have phones already for the most part. So download it and you're contributing to Canada continuing to stay ahead of the COVID-19 curve," he says.
The app is available for Android and Apple based phones.
