Essex County Council is looking for answers when it comes to the condition of a newly constructed intersection in Tecumseh.
The municipalitity's Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti says, on the heels of Highway 3 buckling under the heat, there are also issues at County Rd. 22 and Manning Rd., with the right hand turn lane is also showing sings of damage.
Bachetti made a motion Wednesday night at county council asking for a study of the concrete in question.
He says it may be time for higher standards in what products can be used.
"We've seen in the news lately that a couple incidents have happened. Very dangerous riding conditions. We're concerned that if this is a growing trend that should we be looking at the quality of the materials that are being laid? The quality of the asphalt should get some engineered technical review."
Bachetti says the product used may be covered by a warranty.
"We've asked for our county administration to inspects these to see if there's deficiency clauses that we can after to make these repairs sooner rather than later. These things are time sensitive. So if there's six month or 12 month clauses for deficiencies they need to be addressed with the contractor who did the work."
He adds he's hoping the county can get out ahead of the issue for it becomes a major problem.
"When you're driving and you hit one of those in the wrong spot it jolts you over. So we have to be cognisant of that and make sure that we're proactive so that if we do notice it early on, let's send the road crew in there, the contractor, to make those necessary repairs."
The report is expected to come back to county council at its next meeting on August 15.
