A gas leak in Tecumseh prompted the closure of County Road 42 between Manning Road and Lesperance Road on Friday evening.
Tecumseh Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Kavanagh said his crews were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a contractor striking a gas line.
“Enbridge was already on scene, and they requested us for scene safety and traffic control at first,” he said.
“Our crews were there over the night. No one had to be evacuated, we sheltered everybody in place and we were just on stand-by while the crews tried to cap off the gas line.”
Kavanagh confirmed Enbridge crews successfully capped off the gas line.
“[Saturday] morning around 5:30 a.m. or so I believe they were able to stop the leak,” Kavanagh said.
Kavanagh said firefighters have since cleared the scene while provincial police still had the road blocked off.
