If Ward 2 councillor John Elliott has his way, transport trucks will be banned from using Matchette Rd. between the EC Row Expressway and Prince Rd.
Elliott has asked city administration for a report to see what options are available to deal with the trucks traveling on Matchette Rd. — something he sees as a traffic nightmare.
Elliott says truckers are using the road as a shortcut to some of the industrial destinations in the west-end.
The road has parking on one side and Elliott says at times vehicles need to stop on the road to allow trucks to pass because of the close quarters.
Elliott says the street simply isn't made to handle big trucks.
"The street is so narrow, it takes real skilled drivers — for even cars — to be passing each other going one way or the other and the trucks are just causing all kinds of problems."
He says having long-haul trucks on a tight street has residents worried about their cars park at the curb.
"One time I was parked on the road there, I don't know what I was doing, but I was doing something, come back and yup — my mirror was a fatality. My mirror got smashed up pretty good because it's very narrow, it's a very narrow street."
Elliott made the request at Monday night's council meeting.
