An Essex councillor feels the municipality should hit the pause button on discussions dealing with a new town hall.
Sherry Bondy says administration recently held a preliminary meeting with council, pitching the idea for a new building.
She says administration shared a couple ideas in the range of $6-million that would either expand the current town hall on Talbot Street or build a new facility next to the arena complex.
Bondy agrees something needs to be done to the current building but is against spending $6-million and putting the town in more debt.
"My position is we need to put the brakes on," says Bondy.
She feels council needs to think outside of the box and is pitching some renovations to the current building and adding a satellite town hall site in Harrow.
Bondy says a satellite site would bring some town staff to the south side of the municipality.
"I'm a lot of times a one woman show here in Harrow right everybody goes to me for everything," says Bondy. "I would love to have some administrative support down here. Having the CAO come down here once every two weeks and walking the streets of Harrow and meeting the residents, you're just going to feel more connected and it's just going to bring everybody together. It really is a dream come true."
Bondy says residents are not in favour of building a new town hall.
"I've heard loud and clear that residents do not want to pay for a new town hall at this point," says Bondy. "Do I think we have some concerns with our current town hall building absolutely. We do need to make some improvements there, it's not bright and shiny."
Bondy will make her pitch later Monday at a council visioning session with administration.
The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. at town hall.
