Plans are being unveiled for the Walker Rd. site just north of the E.C. Row Expressway.
The land is owned by the Greek Orthodox Community and construction is set to get underway on a community centre and church in the next few days.
Community President, Panos Sechopoulos, says the church will be similar to the one they currently have on Ellis St. while the community centre will be about 12,000 sq. ft and will include classroom space for a weekend Greek school, a members lounge and banquet hall facilities.
He says the wood lot on the site that had caused concern in the past will be left alone.
"Since I took over the presidency this year and basically when we purposed that we build on the south side of the property, leaving the wood lot alone, the city was very willing to help us with that and they've been fantastic and we have all the permits ready to go," says Sechopoulos.
Construction is expected to be completed by December 2017.
Sechopoulos says if all goes well, the second phase of construction will include soccer fields and beach volleyball courts.
