A major east to west corridor in Belle River is set to get a facelift.
Construction begins in June on St. Peter Street from South Street to Meunier Street.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain says residents have been asking for improvements there for quite some time.
The $2.55-million reconstruction includes a new road with curbs and sidewalks, LED street lighting and sewer improvements.
Bain says the project has been in the works for a while.
"It's been a matter of moving it along in the budget and now we're able to complete that project. Hopefully by the early fall we'll have the job completely done. So it's going to be a top notch job."
He's is asking motorists to be patient during construction.
"They're going to possibly be inconvenienced, they will be to some degree. Hopefully they'll be patient and well rewarded at the end of the job. It's going to give it a complete facelift and add so much more. It'll have much improved parking there, the new street lights, the sidewalks. It'll do a number one upgrade for it."
Construction is expected to be wrapped up by November.
