Training has helped to alleviate some concerns by Windsor's police chief over new policing regulations.
Beginnning in the new year, police must inform the person they are speaking to on the street that they don't have to provide their name and they can walk away.
Chief Al Frederick had voiced concerns in the past that the new rules would affect public safety as some people would simply walk away from police before questioning..
But he says with the training, front line officers in Windsor are accepting of the new rules and officers have a good relationship with the community.
"I feel much more comfortable with the new regulation and process that the government has outlined for us than I did originally and there have been a lot of changes to policing over the years," says Chief Frederick.
He admits there will still be some challenges but he's confident that with the relationships and professionalism of Windsor police officers "for the most part, there will be co-operation."
The issue of carding or street checks became a hot topic in other jurisdictions because of claims the stops were racially motivated.
