A public meeting will take a closer look at sprucing up downtown Windsor.
The Downtown Windsor Community Improvement Plan hopes to promote a diverse mixture of businesses, cultural venues, offices, residential neighbourhoods and entertainment.
Ward 3 Councillor Rino Bortolin says quality downtown housing is one area he hopes will improve under the plan.
Bortolin wants to see every penny go towards the delicate balance of growing residential and commercial properties over the next year.
"There is an appetite for people wanting to live downtown, the problem is the proper stock," say Bortolin. "If you're looking for an apartment, if you're looking for a condo, it's actually really hard to find one, and it's really hard to find one that suits your needs. Almost $1-million set aside in funding for this — I would love to blow through that $1-million in the first year. That would be an amazing feat, and it would result in probably 400 or 500 more bodies living downtown."
The public is invited to the Planning, Heritage, and Economic Standing Committee Meeting in council chambers at 4:30pm today.
Bortolin hopes people take the opportunity to contribute comments at city hall.
