A series of workshops will be held to inform voters before the fall election
Now that the provincial election is over, community organizers are gearing up for the municipal vote.
A series of workshops under the name 'Windsor Votes' is being hosted by a number of local organizations including the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative.
DWCC Community Development Coordinator Sarah Cipkar says the three sessions are meant to help inform voters and get people involved in the upcoming municipal election.
The first session was held at the Windsor Public Library on June 19th with a second set for July 19th and a third planned for September 13th.
Cipkar feels, like the provincial election, there's an appetite for change in Windsor. "We're trying to steer that in a positive direction and steer that into, 'What issues matter to you?'" says Cipkar. "How can you be an effective advocate, how can you be effective even canvassing for a candidate maybe."
Cipkar says the sessions aim to remove barriers to voting and to energize electors. "I think in our neighbourhoods, we have a higher level of people who are frustrated. They feel really disenfranchised, they feel left out of the process, sometimes they don't feel like their voice matters," she says.
Other partners in the Windsor Votes initiative are Our West End Neighbourhood Renewal, Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal, United Way Windsor-Essex and The Initiative Glengarry Neighbourhood Renewal.
The municipal election is October 22nd.
