After hearing the story about Windsor police officers chipping in to buy a young boy from Ottawa a new puppy, others in the community have come forward with donations.
As reported by AM800 News last week, Constable Sean Patterson and other members of the Windsor Police ServiceĀ are buying a yellow lab named 'Jake' for Alex Brown.
Alex and his family were visiting the Harrow area earlier this month when his dog 'Sasha' ran off and was eventually struck and killed by a vehicle.
Alex has autism and 'Sasha' was calming and therapeutic for him.
Patterson says, since the story went public, the support has been overwhelming. "I know that our community we have is a very caring and loving, close-knit community. People are ready to step up, but at the same time it shocks you. Just to see the level of generosity, people standing up, it's such a nice to see these days and times, to actually see people come together for somebody who is not even from this area."
Patterson says the family plans to donate any money above and beyond what's needed for 'Jake' to a service dog organization so that others may benefit as well.
