A 30-day public comment period opens Thursday for the possible expansion of Highway 3 from Essex to Leamington.
Speaking at the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce Luncheon today, Ontario Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced the province will post a "Transportation Environmental Study Report" to allow the public to comment on some technical amendments to the Environmental Assessment.
Del Duca says this is an important next step in the process and it is required before the project can even be considered for funding.
"This is an important step demonstrating we are making progress. I want to let you know as I said in August I would be back to provide you with an update. I wanted to let you know at the completion of this comment period, after the 30 days period, I anticipate that I will be back here in this region to provide an additional update," says Del Duca.
Minister Del Duca visited the area back in August and took a tour of Highway 3 to see firsthand the issues facing drivers.
The report will be posted online on the ministry's website.
Local officials have fighting to have the highway expanded from two to four lanes.
