A new record cold temperature has been set in Windsor-Essex.
The temperature at the Windsor Airport dipped to -21.8C on Wednesday morning as an Extreme Cold Warning continues for the region.
That makes it the coldest day ever since record keeping started in 1940.
The old cold record for January 30th of -20.6C set in 1951.
Environment Canada says a frigid arctic air mass and strong winds will result in wind chill values near -30C Wednesday through Friday morning.
Conditions are expected to improve Friday as milder air moves into the region.
Health officials suggest if you have to be outside, cover up -- since frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Officials at the Humane Society and Animal Control suggest if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside as well.
