The cooler temperatures is a sign of things to come and as a result, the annual Coats for Kids campaign has kicked off in Windsor-Essex.
The South Essex Community Council which services the Leamington, Kingsville and Wheatley areas, is looking to collect 500 coats by the end of this month.
Program Leader Katie Ouellette says there is a specific need for coats for boys and girls ages 4 to 6.
Residents are asked to drop off coats at Fletcher's Cleaners and Kennedy Cleaners in Leamington which will clean them and they will be brought to the council for distribution next month.
"We have the cleaners clean them for us, and then we bring them back to our office and we have a few distribution dates in November, November 10th, November 12, November 13," says Ouellette.
Boots, hats, mittens and snow pants are also accepted.
She says the goal is to collect about 500 coats.
"Last year we were able to distribute 533 coats and 480 accessories, and the need always varies," says Ouellette.
Coats for Kids is a program in partnership with the Unemployed Help Centre in Windsor.
In Windsor, residents can drop off coats at the centre 6955 Cantelon Dr. in east Windsor.
The coats will be distributed at the South Essex Community Council in Leamington at 215 Talbot St. East on Saturday, November 10 from 9am to 3pm, Monday, November 12 from 1pm to 4pm, and Tuesday, November 13 from 3pm to 8pm.
