A survey from jobs website Monster Canada that finds one on 4 Canadians have left a job due to stress.
It also found 17% of working Canadians had considered it.
Karen Gignac, Manager Mental Health Promotion CMHA Windsor, says there are many tools available to help people struggling in a job.
She says doing an internet search for "strategies for mental health in the workplace" there are multiple options.
Gignac says the website Guarding Minds at Work has surveys online: "to get a read on the agency or the organization or businesses culture and how psychologically healthy and safe that workplace is and not only that but given some resources there may be warning signs that an ideas for people to take charge of that"
She says CMHA has a program to encourage good mental health in workplaces with annual awards to look for ways for employees to become and maintain good health mentally and physically.
"We offer training for managers to recognize when employees are struggling with mental health issues and how to have that difficult conversation" said Gihgnac, "it can be more difficult for some than others to approach their employees and talk about their wellness and talk about things they're seeing and behaviours"
Gignac points out reaction to stress in the workplace is individual and what one person considers negative and stressful another may see as a positive challenge.
The monster survey concludes 6 out of 10 Canadians consider themselves overworked with those earning under $40,000 most likely to leave a job over stress.
