More than $4.3-million in tenders are set to be awarded for infrastructure projects in Amherstburg, Ont. Monday.
Roughly half of that cash would go to Pierascenzi Construction Limited to rehabilitate 4th Concession North.
The total cost to fix the road between between Alma Street and County Road 10 is just over $2.3-million.
Pandemic or not, Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says infrastructure projects have to move forward or the cost will continue to multiply.
"It's not unique to Amherstburg; we have this issue on the county level and every municipality has this issue," says DiCarlo. "What we used to pay to get a road done just a few years ago in our region was probably half what we're paying these days."
He says the road is already past its lifespan.
"At least one section of it is really bad and while we're out there we're going to continue and do the entire stretch even though one part probably could wait a bit," says DiCarlo. "It's best to get it done while we're there."
DiCarlo says the town has to keep a promise to its rural population.
"We try to do at least one rural road for every road we're doing in town, so I think it's extremely important that we continue with our program," he added.
Pierascenzi Construction will also pave the shoulders of Alma Street between Fryer Street and Meloche Road at a cost of $797,211.
D'Amore Construction is set to replace the road and watermain on Pacific Avenue between Richmond and Simcoe Streets for just over $1-million.
Amherstburg council meets Monday at 6pm.
