The roundabout at Erie Street and Parent Ave could soon be home to a massive, 33-foot-tall clock tower.
Monday night, council will be asked to approve the $100,000 lime stone structure which will be fully funded by business owners and residents in the Via Italia neighbourhood.
Councillor Chris Holt says the project has really brought the community together.
"It's going to be an impressive structure and the thing I love about this whole project, and the project has been ongoing for about a year and a half now, is it's entirely citizen led. They've raised tens of thousands of dollars through fundraising efforts and gala dinners and those types of things and I absolutely adore it."
He says it's going to be a nice addition to the Erie Street landscape.
"BIA's are main streets and having these kinds of landmarks, these kinds of artistic expressions in our BIA's, that's really what sets our main streets apart from your traditional strip mall somewhere. It's those special amenities that really tell people that this is a living, breathing community."
Holt adds, the clock will be dedicated to long time family doctor and local Italian community advocate Dr. Lazarus Jovanovic.
"He was a doctor back in the 1950's when Erie Street was just building. I've heard nothing but amazing stories about this man throughout the Erie Street community and to see them band together to honour him, that's what real communities are made of. It's heartwarming and it's a wonderful project to be a part of."
If approved, the Erie Street BIA hopes to have the clock ready to be unveiled at this year's Tour di Via Italia bicycle races on September 3.
