The city of Windsor says it's willing to talk to downtown businesses who have said they will not pay to hold extended patio events this summer.
Downtown Windsor has shut streets down every weekend in August for years,
He told AM800 News the the cost to be split between five businesses shot from $3,000 to $8,000 in 2015.
Lambros says the price jump from added Windsor Police personnel, was too much for everyone to absorb.
Jan Wilson with the City of Windsor says the city has always been willing to work with groups for events in the past.
"We have a record of working with the organizations and that's no different with the downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association and their member organizations," says Wilson. "We frequently meet with them and we'd be certainly willing to continue to meet with them if they would like to discuss these types of events."
She says it's not the first time the city has had to work something out with event planners.
"We have often worked with other groups who have presented an idea and perhaps they're difficult to put on because of the cost and we'd discuss alternative events or locations for their events," Wilson says.
"A longer road closure will cost more than a shorter road closure because of additional barricades for example. Each event also has varying requirements for safety and security, which may or may not include a Windsor Police presence," she says.
Lambros and other business owners downtown say they will not hold any extended patio events that aren't funded until the cost goes down.
