The city of Windsor wants families to "power off and play."
As part of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, the city will be screening the award winning documentary "Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age" over the next couple of weeks.
Project Manager Laurel Quinlan told AM800's 'The Afternoon News' that the film takes a look at family life and the struggles over social media, video games and academics. It also provides solutions to help children through the digital world.
Quinlan says the focus is on recreational screen time. "It's understandable kids be on screens at school, just like we have to use them at work but trying to find that balance of recreational screen time is the focus," says Quinlan.
The first screening takes place tonight in Amherstburg at the Libro Centre from 7pm until 9pm.
Quinlan hopes parents and families attend one of the screenings across the area. "It's going to be very well rounded and it's a good opportunity if anyone has questions around acceptable screen time use or what that might look like or making a plan or worried about their children in regards to how much they're on screens," says Quinlan.
Screenings will also take place Monday, May 28th at the Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Centre from 7pm to 9pm.
Wednesday, May 30th at the Forest Glade Community Centre from 7pm to 9pm.
Tuesday, June 5th at Mackenzie Hall from 7pm to 9pm.
