The future of the Pelissier St. Parking Garage returns to Windsor city council tonight.
Unable to rent vacant retail space on the main floor of the building, the city wants to rip it out and add more parking.
Current tenants have been given six months to move out.
But Ward 3 Councillor Rino Bortolin doesn't think the city has tried hard enough to find new tenants. "We've heard a lot that we've done all we could and nobody is interested. I don't think we've done all we could. Realistically, we haven't gone to a broker. We listed it for four weeks in the summer time, in the middle of August when everybody was away, with a very unique stringent criteria. We need to go to a broker, we need to go to a real estate agent to allow them to take it to the market."
Bortolin says they need to spend more time reviewing all options before making a decision.
A report states the costs of converting the garage to parking is estimated at $507,000. The costs of remediating the space to a base level is estimated at $480,000.
As AM800 News reported last week, an offer by a fitness club to take over the space has been rejected because it didn't meet the minimum requirements outlined by the city.
