Council is being asked to approve 5.5million in funding
An upgrade may be in the works for the Riverfront Festival Plaza.
Windsor city council is being asked to approve $5.5-million worth of funding from 2018 to 2020.
If approved, plans include a concert area that could accommodate up to 3,000 people, additional greenery, concessions and washrooms at the site on Riverside Dr., right across from Caesars Windsor.
Executive Director of Recreation and Culture, Jan Wilson, says the ultimate goal is to make the plaza more accessible and more attractive.
"The festival is well used in the summer but there are many, many days where it is not in use and people want to be able to take advantage of the site when it is not in use for festivals," says Wilson. "If council approves the concept phase, administration will start working on more specific details for the following phases."
If council approves every phases of the project, the estimated final cost of the plaza upgrade would be $13-million.
