A mass emergency notification system could be on the horizon for the City of Windsor.
Fire Chief Bruce Montone is recommending bringing the system online in 2017.
Montone says the system was scrapped in 2016 during city budget talks, but he believes after events like the tornados in August and the flooding in September something needs to be put in place.
He says it's important to keep residents in the know.
"Those are the kinds of events that this particular tool would provide us with the opportunity to notify residents, provide them with instructions and keep them updated in terms of whatever might be happening given the event," says Montone.
He says it's a timely way to get information out.
The cost of bringing the system online is about $65,000.
In addition to emergencies, residents would also be notified about weather and road conditions.
The report will be discussed during the city's 2017 budget deliberations.
