The City of Windsor has officially declared a snow emergency.
Up to 30cm of snow has fallen since the storm began Friday with more expected Sunday.
Phong Nguy heads up plowing and salting operations for the city and says the mix of snow and freezing rain has led to some challenging road conditions.
He's asking residents to not drive and, if possible, to not park on the road as plows make their way through residential streets.
The city is allowing free parking in city lots to get vehicles off the street.
Nguy anticipates clearing of residential streets will not be completed until sometime Monday.
City Engineer Mark Winterton says more than 60 pieces of equipment have been working around the clock to keep Windsor's main streets passable.
The city is tracking what has and has not been done, so Winterton asks residents hold off on calling 311 until early in the week if they feel their street has been missed.
Environment Canada has issued a Severe Weather Bulletin for all of Southwestern Ontario and Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent is currently under a freezing rain warning.
The region is expected to see an ice-snow mix changing to freezing rain then back to light-snow heading into Sunday afternoon.
