City of Windsor crews are already out on the roads to get ready for this afternoon's winter weather event.
The city has 4 of it's own salt trucks, but adds 17 pieces of snow clearing equipment from contractors.
Executive Director of Operations, Dwayne Dawson, says they're making sure the most llikely places for icing are prepared.
He says they have tracked what the course of the system will do
"Because of the impending dropping temperatures and a little bit of rain in the forecast we have been out" says Dawson. "We've been applying brine to all the bridges throughout the city to combat the icy conditions that form first on the bridge decks"
He says their equipment is prepared for the worst, even though they don't expect it.
Dawson says this is a good test of their systems.
"Obviously every year we have a few new people on the staff that are driving trucks and supervising," explains Dawson "So the first run is always a good test and if it's a relatively minor event that works out even better so we can work the kinks out"
Dawson says they're anticipating fairly minor impact on the roads because the ground is still relatively warm.
He's requesting drivers be cautious around the snow plows and give them lots of space.
