The city's public works crew is ready for the first significant snowfall of the year.
Operations Manager Dwayne Dawson says the city has 21 plows on the roads Saturday.
He says they will focus on 21 set routes and if there is more than four inches, residential streets will be plowed as well.
"Typically our amount calls for four inches. So anything four inches or above, that's what typically triggers us to go into the residential roll out," says Dawson.
Dawson says the city is reminding residents and business owners to clear their sidewalks.
"Your sidewalks are your responsibility for clearing of the sidewalks for all the residential streets, you have 12 hours after the snowfalls ended for the commercial areas it's four hours," says Dawson.
He says plows hit the road as soon as the snow started.
"We'll maintain these trucks on those routes throughout the duration of the storm and then depending on the amount of snowfall we'll see whether or not we dispatch the contractors into the side streets to start clearing those," says Dawson.
Dawson is asking motorists to be patient and give snow plow operators plenty of room.
The city says the plows typically operate around 40km/h.
