The city will continue with electronic council meetings for a while longer amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council has approved extending the electronic meetings until September or at least until the city enters Stage 3.
When in-person meetings resume, physical distancing measures will be enforced and the number of people inside council chambers will be limited.
Councillor Jim Morrison says city staff are also looking at a hybrid model, which would allow in-person and electronic options.
"Where people can start coming to council for in-person meetings as well as continuing to participate electronically,” he says
Morrison says when the hybrid model goes into effect, there will still be people who will need to participate electronically.
"More people form administration can continue with participating electronically,” he says. “Freeing up some of those spaces for the gallery."
Council has not been allowing delegations during the online meetings but Morrison says that will change at the beginning of August.
He says even when people are allowed back in council chambers, there may be some that aren't comfortable doing so.
"There may be health issues or age issues so this will certainly help the capacity issue."
Council has held 12 electronic meetings since March.
