Windsor's Development Standing Committee has given the green light for a new pharmaceutical facility to receive financial incentives under the city's Community Improvement Plan.
"This is something that Windsor really needs," says Ward 10 Councillor Jim Morrison.
As heard on AM800 news on Monday, Pancap Pharma Inc., a Markham based company is looking to invest $6.6-million to renovate and expand a facility at 2679 Howard Ave. between McDougall and Edinborough.
Morrison says the company is expected to bring more than 100 jobs to the area which is one of the reasons why he voted in favour of the company to receive incentives from the city.
"These are well paying jobs," he says. "They're going to do research and development. They bring in engineers, they bring in scientists so this is the type of diversification that Windsor really needs."
Morrison is pleased with the application.
"This is one is really a good one," he says. "We do have some companies in this field so we're building a niche market and I think this is the kind of stuff that we really need to push forward."
It's still unknown how much the incentive values are which Morrison says is based on taxes levied on the property.
The committee did approved the maximum allowed grants over the next 10-years.
The issue now heads to city council for final approval.
