The City of Windsor is moving ahead with the Sandwich Gateway and Roundabout project.
On Monday, city council approved the proposed project where Riverside Dr. W. meets University Ave. W. and Rosedale Ave.
The project also includes a Chief Tecumseh and General Brock monument in the centre of the roundabout.

Many at the council meeting voiced their displeasures and concerns with the statue being inside the roundabout.
Chair of the Sandwich Improvement Area, Mary Ann Cuderman says the monument belongs in Paterson Park, where it would be protect from vandalism. "It would have been built down in and then seating put around and then high up. There would be no access to the statue itself by anybody."
Ward 2 Councillor John Elliott voted in favour of the project and says he's a fan of the monument inside the roundabout. "We could agree to disagree where the location is at but one thing about it, it's in our community. So my concern with having it in Paterson Park is the exposure and the visibility of it, because stuff goes on down there at night time."
In a recorded vote, council voted 7-4 in favour of placing the monument in the centre of the roundabout.
The cost of the War of 1812 bronze status is approximately $400,000.
No word yet when work will begin on the project.
