Windsor administration is recommending an historic streetcar call the Sculpture Garden home.
In a report to Windsor City Council on June 4th, the riverfront at the foot of Askin Ave. in west Windsor is the preferred location for the streetcar once it is restored in 2020.
In October 2017, council voted 7-4 in favour to accept the donation of the streetcar to restore it at a cost of up to $750,000.
The city held an open house and put out surveys to get some feedback. 336 surveys were completed.
Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says the historic piece should be valued in the community and by the public.
"Obviously keep a piece of our history, a very important piece of Windsor's history, but put it in a place that is going to be meaningful and we know the amount of activity that exists along our riverfront," he says. "It is one of the most beautiful in the entire world."
Dilkens believes the streetcar needs to an interactive piece.
"Fundamentally that was what it was all about, telling the story and sharing the history but making it a functional piece of our history as well."
The 100-year-old streetcar is currently being restored and is about 30% complete.
Windsor was the first city in Canada to have an electric streetcar.
