Windsor city council has given the green light for 2018 budget timelines.
Council has decided to hold budget deliberations over a two day period instead of one, beginning the week of January 15th.
Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk voted in favour of the change,
"I think it improves transparency and accountability," he explains. "You'll have the budget over two days as opposed to a budget process that runs until two o'clock in the morning as it has in previous years."
Kusmierczyk says this allows residents who want to follow the discussions to do so.
"It allows folks, for example, to tune in, to follow both the operating and capital budget, to follow the delegations that make presentations," he says. "They don't have to stay up until two o'clock in the morning, most people can't they have to go to work the next day."
But it also benefits the council members.
"The other thing is we're making decision that are multi-million dollar decisions and councillors also want to have a fresh mind and fresh eyes when they're looking at some of these tough decisions."
The budget will be released to the public between December 4th and 11th and will be available for six weeks for the public to review before deliberations.
