With proposed budget cuts in the U.S. affecting the Great Lakes, Windsor's Citizens Environment Alliance plans to step up protection efforts.
Alliance Chair Derek Coronado says without government funding, the lakes are in serious trouble. "We are preparing for some potential curve balls that might be happening on the Great Lakes in terms of funding cutbacks on the Great Lakes. There is still a lot of work to be done on the Great Lakes from legacy pollutants for example but also new issues that are popping up and more pressure being put on the Great Lakes from invasive species."
Coronado says the impact of climate change is also a concern.
He plans to continues public education efforts on the Great Lakes Ecosystem throughout the coming year.
The CEA set out the priorities last night during its annual general meeting.
