A man who tried to steal cigarettes from a downtown Windsor convenience store is facing charges.
Windsor Police were called to the 900-block of Ouellette Avenue near Erie Street, about mid-morning on Wednesday, April 11.
They were told a man asked for cigarettes, then started to take them from behind the front counter.
A male employee told the man to stop, but he took a swing at the employee who ducked out of the way.
The suspect then pushed a customer out of the way and fled.
Police identified the suspect and the following day arrested a 46-year-old man a short distance away on Victoria Avenue.
The man faces charges of robbery and assault.
