A wonderful celebration in Windsor is on its way to mark the Chinese New Year.
North America turns the calendar over Jan. 1 but Chinese culture celebrates the Lunar New Year. Zhenzhong Ma is the president of the Chinese Association of Greater Windsor — he spoke with Patty Handysides on The Afternoon News.
The Chinese New Year is one of the world's largest annual human migrations as families get together and celebrate a year of hard work.
"It's a big celebration. In the past we've always had a very full house between the dinner guests and the guests who go there to see the performance only,"
Ma says 2019 is the year of the pig.
"Often it represents luck and all good fortune, wealth, honesty. Someone born in this year would be very hard working and peace loving person, generous, patient, reliable and trusting," says Ma.
The annual gala will be held at St. Clair Centre for the Arts on Saturday Feb. 2.
Dinner is served at 4:30pm with live entertainment to follow at 7pm.
