Charges have been laid against a Windsor man following a provincial strategy highlighting concerns surrounding internet child exploitation.
The Windsor Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) Unit participated in the strategy and conducted an investigation in mid-November.
Sgt. Steve Betteridge says officers received a search warrant for a home in the 300 block of University Ave E.
He says officers seized a number of computer and external electronic data storage devices.
"The investigation determined that there was children pornography on those devices and an individual from Windsor has been arrested and charged," says Betteridge. "That was in November and he's facing a number of charges including possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and making available child pornography."
Betteridge says the suspect was arrested at police headquarters without incident.
He says I.C.E. investigators do not believe any local children were involved in the offences
40-year-old Richard Dalkeith is charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of accessing child pornography and two counts of making available child pornography.
Betteridge adds Windsor police have launched a new educational video called "Officer Red Flag."
He says the video reminds children and youth about warning signs and online dangers.
"Predators that take advantage of online situations those suspects can be in any jurisdiction regardless if you're in other place in Ontario and other locations in Canada or even in a different country," says Betteridge.
