Chatham-Kent Police are warning homeowners about fraudulent construction and handyman services.
Police have received several fraud complaints about paving and other construction companies conducting door-to-door sales, entering into contracts, and then not honouring the contracts.
Police are putting out caution regarding door-to-door sales for construction or handyman services such as asphalt and paving and home repairs.
While reputable companies do engage in door-to-door sales, many scams are associated with a specific type of marketing.
Police are reminding residents to be aware of high pressure sales tactics such as getting you to sign a contract or make a deposit right away, and a lack of credentials as those may not have necessary licenses, permits or insurance to perform the work.
They warn to be aware of no written contacts and do not rely on verbal promises, a lack references from previous customers, as well as unusually low prices.
Police remind homeowners to be bold, ask questions, and do their due diligence before signing a contract or making a deposit.
