Chatham-Kent Police administered naloxone to a man who was showing symptoms of an overdose.
On November 17th, 2019, a 28-year-old woman called 911 to stay an acquaintance, a 32-year-old man, was overdosing on fentanyl.
When police arrived, the man was showing symptoms consistent with an opioid overdose and police gave him Narcan — a life-saving drug that interrupts the effects of an overdose.
EMS then arrived and transported the man to the hospital for further treatment.
A search of the area did not locate any illicit drugs.
Windsor is the only major city in Ontario where its police officers don't carry naloxone.
Windsor Police Chief Pam Mizuno says for now, it will be status quo, but she isn't slamming the door on equipping officers with naloxone kits in the future.
