Increased enforcement is being considered along a stretch of the 401 in Chatham-Kent following a spike in stunt driving charges.
The most recent happened over a 24-hour period earlier this week that saw three people charged with stunt driving including two inside a construction zone near Scane Rd.
In each case, the drivers were clocked at speeds above 140 km\h.
Chatham-Kent OPP Constable Jay Denorer says there's no reason for these speeds.
"I'm going to say in the last month-and-a-half we've had around 10 stunt driving charges that we've laid, where people have been well over the 100 km\h, they're into the 150 range." says Denorer. "I've seen it go up to the 170-180 km\h range. We were actually making the comment the other day that we're going to have to do more enforcement to get people to slow down."
Along with being urged to slow down, OPP are reminding drivers to leave space between you and the vehicle in front of you if you're travelling through a construction zone.
Those convicted of stunt driving face fines of up to $10,000, six demerit points, up to six months in jail and a two-year licence suspension for a first conviction.
