The province's police watchdog has cleared the OPP in Chatham-Kent of any wrongdoing after a woman suffered a broken nose and concussion during an arrest.
On March 12, 2018, the complainant called the Special Investigations Unit to report the incident.
She said on March 10 at 11:30pm, she was driving on Park Ave. in Chatham when she dropped her cell phone on the floor of her vehicle, which caused her to swerve. She was pulled over by the OPP.
According to the complainant, the police officer was aggressive and rude and punched her in the face. She also alleges the police pulled her out of her vehicle and took her to the ground.
After an investigation by the SIU, it found the officers used relatively significant force during the woman's arrest, but the level of force used was acceptable.
It found the woman also appeared to be violent towards police and was resisting arrest.
