Windsor Spitfires defenceman Jalen Chatfield is putting pen to paper on a three-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
The overager from Ypsilanti, Michigan went undrafted in both the OHL and NHL. The Spits signed Chatfield as a free-agent in June 2014.
Chatfield has goneĀ on to play 188 regular season game and be named co-captain this season with Jeremiah Addison.
"I'm really excited to sign with the Cancuks," says Chatfield in a team news release. "It's hard to sign a professional contract. You have to work hard and I feel like I have. It's a great feeling."
Windsor Spitsfires General Manager Warren Rychel says Chatfield earned the contract.
"I'm really proud of Jalen," says Rychel. "He came to us on a tryout three years ago. His presistence and determination earned him an NHL deal."
Chatfield has 17 goals and 69 assists for 86 points in his OHL career.
