Windsor police have release additional detail of what led to the evacuation of the Walmart on Tecumseh Road East.
Initially referring to it as a "mental health" situation, police now say it was the result of a man indicating his brother had sent troubling text messages and photos.
The 23-year-old complainant indicated he had just returned from vacation and was concerned for the well being of his 25-year-old brother.
He said the older brother may have access to firearms and could be battling substance abuse.
Officers obtained a description of the man's vehicle which they located at the Walmart store.
The store was emptied while officers searched for a weapon the man may have discarded, but none was found.
When the man left the store he was taken into custody without incident and taken to hospital for evaluation, while under police guard.
A rifle was found in the trunk of the man's car, but it had a trigger lock and no firing mechanism, so was inoperable.
The man has now been charged with 2 counts of uttering a death threat and has been released for a future court date.
