A local group is fighting to protect jobs in the renewable energy sector.
The Ministry of Energy recently held a public session in Windsor with a focus on developing the province's next long-term energy plan.
Windsor native, Steve Booze, is heading up the Renewable Energy Alliance of Ontario and says the industry has been good to Windsor-Essex and it's important to protect those jobs going forward.
"We want to make it known that investments in renewable technology has resulted in the creation of good paying jobs in the region. Since 2012, renewable energy has created more than 260 jobs. So it would be a shame if we lose that work," says Booze.
With many homes and businesses becoming more energy efficient, the Ministry of Energy is holding consultation sessions across the province to gather input from the public on what steps should be taken to adapt to these changes.
Ontario's new Long-Term Energy Plan will be released sometime next year.
