Outgoing University of Windsor President Alan Wildeman has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the local chamber of commerce.
The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrated 142-years in the community at its annual Chamber Gala and Wildeman was the guest of honour.
Wildeman - will officially step down on June 30 and he tells AM800 News, being recognized for the community outreach he was a part of with the university over the past 10-years is something he'll cherish.
"It's a great honour, the Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce is a very important organization and what we've tried to do, and it's not just me, we've really tried to connect the university and the community a lot more and break down the walls that inevitably exist between academia and the community around it," he says.
Wildeman — who is approaching 65 years old — has no set plans moving forward and hasn't ruled out returning to the working world, but says he'll take his time once he and his wife return to their home near London.
"Take a couple of months over the summer to just cool my jets and sort of slow down a bit. Then after that we'll see where life takes us," says Wildeman. "I want to do another album, but it's just a good time for my wife and I to think about act three in our life."
Provost Douglas Kneale is set to take over as interim president when Wildeman steps down.
