The Windsor Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking to have stability with the naming of their new President and CEO.
The Chief Operating Officer of the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation, Rakesh Naidu, has been named to the position.
He takes over in mid-December ending a few months of upheaval in the leadership.
Naidu says his role in economic development makes him a good fit for the position.
"What the chamber does and the pivotal role it plays in the economy of the region was something that really endeared me to this job. I thought with what I have learned, the network I have accumulated, the knowledge base and the partnership that has been created I thought I could transfer some of that for this job and really make it work for the region"
Naidu believes he brings a lot to the table for the chamber top job.
"Highlighting what is important for this region what's important for the business in the region I think those are some of the issues that is top of my mind. And again leveraging what I have done at the economic development corporation and making use of those assets and the information that I have so that the chamber membership can benefit from that"
Naidu says representing the local economy to the federal and provincial government will be a key role.
"We'll be very vocal, we'll be very visible, we will make sure our voices are heard, our concerns are addressed. And I'll do my best. I have a good network with both the provincial government and the federal government and a lot of other important key stakeholders have a good network and we'll be leveraging all of that for sure"
Naidu takes over at the chamber after former President Matt Marchand stepped down to run for mayor and Janice Forsythe was moved in to lead on an interim basis.
Naidu hopes to continue a positive relationship with the labour community in the region.
He says the continuing threat of aluminium and steel tariffs and the potential of tariffs on auto are a top concern.
Naidu is optimistic the Ford government will be positive for business, but is reserving judgement because they have just recently taken office.
